What is Chebe powder?

Chébé powder is the haircare secret of an African ethnic group in Chad known to have very long naturally coarse hair that famously goes passed their rear ends. They cover their hair in a home-made mixture that keeps their hair super moisturised and lubricated which is the reason given for why they say their hair never breaks; even from childhood. This product is ideal for those who would like to grow their hair, combat hair loss due to breakage and nourish their hair. My Natural Beauty stock and use in our products authentic Chebe imported from Chad directly from Miss Sahel (Sahel Cosmetics).

Some people may initially think that their hair length is due to genetics, after inquiring on the subject the women said that it was most definitely NOT due to genetics since they do not apply Chébé powder mixture to their bangs which, in turn, stay short. However, the parts of the hair which they do use the powder mixture on in their routine doesn't break and grows very long and strong.  Chébé helps hair to retain moisture, which ultimately promotes hair growth. ‘Chébé’ works for all hair types.

How is Chebe traditionally used in Chad?

The traditional directions for using Chebe similar to as traditionally used in Chad is as follows:

Take 100 g of your favourite hair treatment, conditioner or hair cream, mix with 100g of oil of your choice and add a teaspoon of mixed Chébé powder. The first step is to get the hair wet using regular water and alternate between the hair grease mix that you just made and the Chébé powder mix until the hair is fully saturated. They then re-braid the hair and once that braid is done wet it again with water. They repeat that routine every 3 to 5 days. Do not put on the scalp.

What if this traditional method does not suit my lifestyle? What if I cannot go to work with Chebe particles in my hair or simply don’t have the time to use Chebe the traditional way? I would love to use Chebe, do I have any other options?

You simply apply the Chebe Cream to your hair regularly (a little goes a long way…the amount you use will depend on your hair type). Start with a small amount and apply more if needed. Do you use Chebe on the scalp?

  It is recommended you do not use Chebe on the scalp. Chebe is designed to add moisture and strength to the hair shaft, consequently resulting in length retention which allows you to grow longer and stronger hair. If you wish to also promote hair growth from the roots, you can use growth promoting oils such as such as Jamaican Black Castor Oil , Black Seed Oil and other oils suitable for the scalp (please see our store) in conjunction with this product. This way you are treating hair growth from the roots as well as fortifying your ends to protect against breakage. This is the ultimate hair growth/ anti-breakage treatment. Suggested use

This oil can be used as a leave in for wash and go hairstyles, in dry hair to smooth flyaways and add shine, as a styling aid or you can use it as a rinse out deep treatment. Experiment with how this unique and versatile product works best for your hair type.

Apply a small amount to the hair regularly, ideally 2-3 times a week for best results.  

Alternatively, apply more generously as a rinse out treatment. After shampooing your hair, apply a generous amount and leave in for 30 minutes or more. Rinse and style as usual.

How?

As a leave-in treatment apply a small amount to palms and distribute throughout either damp or dry hair. Use this product on the hair lengths and avoid the scalp.  May be used daily to refresh your hair style, detangle and alleviate dryness or as needed. Other uses include using this as a natural rich rinse out conditioner, intensive treatment or as a pre-shampoo treatment. This product is great used daily to refresh parched, thirsty dry curls.
